We're adding something a little different to Komorebi today. Not a glass pen this time, but a bamboo dip pen, handcrafted by Boku-undo in Nara, Japan.

Boku-undo has been making ink in Nara since 1805. Of the 38 ink makers that existed during the Edo era, only 13 survived the Meiji Restoration. Boku-undo is one of them.

This bamboo pen doesn't hold a lot of ink per dip. Bamboo carries ink on its surface rather than in grooves, so you get a shorter run of writing each time. The line starts rich and fades naturally as the ink runs out. Check the product photos to see how it handles blue ink, then switches cleanly to red-orange after a quick rinse.

It's not meant to replace your everyday pen. It's more of a way to slow down and enjoy working with ink directly. If you're into journaling or art projects and want something with a different feel, it's worth a try.
